Vein laser operation, also known as endovenous laser ablation (EVLA), is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat varicose veins and chronic venous insufficiency. Laser energy is delivered through a thin catheter to close the affected vein and redirect blood flow to healthier veins.
Preparation: Patients undergo a consultation and ultrasound examination to map affected veins. Doctors may recommend avoiding certain medications and wearing comfortable clothing on the day of the procedure.
Procedure: Under local anaesthesia, a laser fibre is inserted into the diseased vein through a small puncture. Laser energy heats the vein wall, causing it to collapse and seal.
Recovery: Walking is encouraged shortly after treatment. Most patients return to normal activities within a few days, while compression stockings support the healing process.
